Welcome to the Spartanburg Running Club!

Contact:

  • PURPOSE. The Spartanburg Running Club (SRC) is a family-oriented organization devoted to providing its members with the opportunity to meet and associate with others who are interested in running. Runners of all abilities are welcome, from the beginner to the elite, competitive runner. The Club is a non-profit organization and is open to anyone upon submission of a completed application and payment of membership dues.
  • BENEFITS. Club members receive our award-winning monthly newsletter which includes news about Club members, the results of races in which members have participated, a calendar of local and South Carolina races and Club events and articles about running and general physical fitness. Members receive a membership card, which entitles them to discounts at participating sporting goods stores. Members of SRC automatically become members of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) and will receive a quarterly newsletter, Footnotes, from that organization. Joining the SRC helps to promote running and will help support our children's running program, "Footsteps to Fitness", which is nationally recognized and sponsors running clubs for elementary school children in Spartanburg County. Presently, more than 20 schools have a running program for children. The Club also sponsors a Junior Olympics track team.
  • MEETINGS. Club meetings are normally held in the evening of the 2nd Tuesday of each month at a local restaurant. The exact time and place of the meetings may vary but will be announced in the newsletter. Call (864) 583-5297 for current information.
  • EVENTS. The Club schedules numerous run/training runs throughout the year at various locations and times. An informal training run is held each week at the Cottonwood Trail near Spartanburg High School at 4 p.m. on Sundays. The Club also conducts a "Jingle Bell Run" and a "Biscuit Run" in December of each year. The Jingle Bell Run is a caroling run through a local neighborhood with refreshments afterward. The Biscuit Run is held on Christmas Eve morning and starts at the Eastside YMCA; the biscuit breakfast at Hardee's after the run is purchased by the Club. We generally have a couple of picnics or pool parties in the summer in lieu of our regular monthly meetings.
  • RACES. The Club currently sponsors two races. The Race for the Grasshopper is held in January and offers a 10K, 5K, and 1 mile fun run at Cowpens Battlefield. This event raises money to support our children's running program. The Out of Sight Run is held in May of each year, and offers a 5K race and a 1 mile fun run at the SC School for the Deaf and Blind in Cedar Springs. All of the proceeds from the Out of Sight Run go to the SC Foundation for Disabled Athletes. Both races are on the Palmetto Grand Prix.
  • DUES. Membership dues are as follows: Student - \\$5, Individual - $15, Family - $25.
  • INFORMATION. Call (864) 583-5297 or write SRC, PO Box 702, Spartanburg, SC 29304
  • HOW TO JOIN. Complete the Application and sign the waiver form and mail with check for appropriate amount.
